KBTX - BRYAN FOOD PANTRY HELPING MORE AT NEW FACILITY

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Each year, more than 70,000 people in the Brazos Valley face food insecurity. As prices continue to rise, so does that number.
One in five individuals, including a third of children and almost a third of senior citizens, experience food insecurity.
USDA cuts to food programs could impact Brazos Valley families and schoolsThe Bridge Ministries, a Bryan organization, is working to fill more empty stomachs. The food pantry used to be stationed in Downtown Bryan, but it relocated just off of Texas Avenue last September.

Bryan based The Bridge Ministries announces the selection of a new executive director.

Colby Street was named to lead the organization, according to a news release, “to expand the organization’s reach in the fight for our neighbors in the Brazos Valley who are uncertain where their next meal will come from and poverty in the community.”

The organization’s website says it began in 2010 and is providing boxes of food to approximately 500 families every month and other necessities like diapers, shampoo, detergent, deodorant and other toiletries.

Food prices are on the rise due to Trump’s Liberation Day tariffs and other factors.

While costs continue to spike, over 70,000 people now face food insecurity in the Brazos Valley alone, according to a March 20 article from KBTX. The instability of food options has locals searching for answers.

Agricultural economics professor David Anderson said the introduction of tariffs added great volatility to the marketplace, but they aren’t the sole reason for the rising costs.
